Assignment 1-3: Article Analysis

In How the Beatles Destroyed Rock ‘‘N’’ Roll: An Alternative History of American Popular Music, Elijah Wald presents a chronicle of twentieth century American popular music that engages the academic and casual reader alike but also challenges many of the accepted truths regarding this topic. However, before discussing how the article acts as ‘‘an alternative history of American popular music,’’ one must come to terms with the first part of his title. Many would view his declaration that the Beatles destroyed rock music as blasphemous and, therefore, even more reason to learn if Wald’s work proves this provocative claim. Anyone looking for a book that discredits the contributions of the Beatles, or even focuses on this group extensively, will be disappointed. The Beatles do not enter into Wald’s narrative until the last paragraph, and even here the author does not set out to prove that they destroyed an entire genre of music. Instead, he notes that the Beatles mark the passing of an era of music. One which he recounts with care over the course of his article. Wald, a musician and the author of numerous books on the blues and folk rock, claims that while ‘‘it is standard practice to write rock history as a story of white musicians building on black foundations’’ the story is much more accurately told as black and white musicians evolving by ‘‘adopting and adapting one another’s styles, shaping a series of genres’’. He begins the work before the turn of the twentieth century with an examination of popular music as evidenced in sheet music, and then devotes half of the text exploring the beginnings of and interrelationships between ragtime, jazz, and swing.

A key USB or flash drive is a removable peripheral of storage of small size which can be connected on port USB of a computer. A key USB embarks in a plasticized hull a connector, a memory with semiconductors, nonvolatile and rewriteable. A key USB is able to store several gig octets of data, while being able to preserve the data when the power supply is cut or when the key is disconnected. In practice a key USB is very practical for wandering users because it is very easy to transport and can contain a great quantity of documents and data. In addition, the recent mother charts allow to boot on keys USB, which means it is from now on possible to start a system with a simple key USB. Practical for the users wishing to have their work environment where they are or to start and repair a system in the event of planting.

Characteristics to be taken into account at the time of the choice of a USB key are the following ones:

Capacity

Rate of transfer: the speed of transfer of the data.

Functionalities of coding: certain keys propose tools allowing encoding the data or part of the data present on the key so to reinforce their confidentiality.

Data protection in writing: on certain keys, a material switch makes it possible to put the key in reading alone so to avoid the suppression or the modification of the data.

A flash drive occupies a great place in our daily life because most of us use it as a storage tool or transfer tool to transfer information from pc to pc. The only negative thing about is that when it is lost all the information are gone unless the user has it somewhere else as backup.

The GPS is adopted by more and more drivers, generally out of added accessory. The reason of this passion of course holds in the fact that a GPS guides you in a quasi-perfect unknown ground way. But did you know that the GPS also plays a significant part in the fight against climate warming?

In theory, the optimization of the ways must make it possible to limit the time spent on the road and thus consumption and pollution. Certain GPS are equipped with functions that evaluate the traffic on the ways, thus allowing to avoid the congestions (a car at stop or very low speed pollutes more). It helps to arrive more quickly at destination, therefore to use less fuel and to pollute less.

The factor time is a critical component of any rescue operation. Knowledge specifies localization of the terrestrial reference marks, streets, buildings, available resources with the emergency services and sites of help in the event of catastrophe saves time and saves lives. This information is essential for the rescue squads and the personnel charged to protect the population because they help them to save lives and to reduce the property damages. The System of world positioning (GPS, Total Positioning System) is a technology which contributes to meet these needs. The GPS is today an integral part for the arsenal of the services of intervention in the event of urgency that it is a question of coming to assistance of a motorist in distress or of guiding vehicles of help.

In conclusion the modernization of the GPS will continue to facilitate the task of the services in charge with the helps to the disaster victims and the protection of the population. The addition of new civil signals will increase the precision and the reliability of the GPS all over the world. In short, the modernization of the GPS will make it possible to save even more lives and to help the victims of catastrophes in the whole world with being helped more quickly.

The rap is a musical genre which can take various forms. Sometimes festive, sometimes sad, rap can also appear violent that it is by intermediate of sentences or many texts. Thus certain rappers cry their rage (with the clean direction of the term) and other the grater but by employing words which can shock. This violence has a very simple explanation and comes from the origin of rap. Indeed, the rap comes from the street, there was and remains still the only means for a population underprivileged to express, to show they exist and to assert the same rights for all. The rap is a weapon for underprivileged and it retranscribes there lived to them, their claim but also their rage. Then it is not astonishing that History of the rap is strewn with legal contention in connection with certain texts.

However, the rap is also most of the time related to drugs. Everyday a rapper is put in prison because of possession of drug or a gun. It is the case of certain famous rappers in USA such as T.I and LIL WAYNE. Nowadays a new type of rap is born compared to those types of rap in the past years. Rappers of today try to focus more on there image. They use appropriate text to inform their ideas by using many rhymes.

Moreover rappers are very rich most them have big labels. They produce people and acquire a big income. Or they invest in another type of businesses. For instance 50cent and Jay Z have actions in many companies.

In conclusion, back in days the rap was the voice of the poor people usually living in the hoods. Presently the rap is commercial.

Assignment 2-2:Martin Luther King Jr

Martin Luther King Jr. lost his life trying to better the lives of African-American people. He was one of the greatest American Civil Rights leaders of the 1960s. He was born in 1929 in the city of Atlanta, Georgia. Martin Luther King is a well known, inspiring man, to all cultures of the world. King was and still is one of the most influential heroes. King's views and beliefs, which were similar to the non-violent ideas of Gandhi, helped African Americans through the 50's and 60's obtain the rights and liberties that was their birth right. King faced many obstacles on his quest like jail and even assassination attempts. Despite these obstacles, he became a successful leader during the Civil Rights Movement, and even after his death, by guiding African Americans in a non-violent and positive direction for the fight to secure rights and equality. These reasons make Martin Luther King worthy enough of the title "hero."

Why Martin Luther King because: Martin Luther King Jr. was a very powerful speaker. He knew how to lead protests, and how to get people involved. He is the main reason for the equal rights between races that we have today.

Martin Luther King means a lot to me because he uses both Charisma and diplomacy to fight segregation. As we can see his fight is accomplished. Today the president of the United States is African American.

Assignment 2-2:Mohandas Gandhi

Mohandas Gandhi, whom most people know as Mahatma is an Indian leader born on October 2, 1869 in Porbandar (India). The meaning of his name is “Great Soul”. He is one of the most prevalent images in the minds of those who think about great leaders, in the movement for human rights non-violence. However, not much is known about his life as a child and his achievements in the twentieth century. All the staging grounds in Gandhi’s stance toward non violence, human rights, and peace took place in the years leading up to the twentieth century and the first decade after.

Why Gandhi because of his teachings of non-violent resistance, has had a lasting effect and influence on the world today. He has been the role model for many famous, influential people such as American civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr. and former South African President Nelson Mandela. His continued influence can still be felt today in many non-violent peace organizations around the world bearing his name or teaching his philosophy.

Gandhi represents a lot for me because he is the first leader to promote the non violence in the world and I agree with him. Only diplomacy can resolve problems.
